Borrowed image from Sin Alley. It's taken at Bordello's (awesome stage)
My new shoes needed a stroll and some R&R. so my friends and I headed to the R&R Cabaret to see our friends from Sin Alley play. We missed the cabaret part, but were there in time for the music. Sin Alley know how to blast some tunes out. It was at Vertigo's, which I don't frequent as much, but it was a good night. Go-go dancers, movies projected, Sin Alley, and a tattoo artist on hand.
My boyfriend, a friend and I went to the Blues festival on Saturday. We've never been and we I brought a blanket to sit on. Thank god cause we were there for the long haul. We wanted to see Pinetop Perkins and Chuck Berry. Well, Pinetop was one of the first act and Chuck was the last. OMG..There was no in and outs! So we proceeded to eat BBQ and Sweet Corn on the cob (but the corn was not the elote loco kind, I had to improvise) and some beers ($7!). BBQ to Die For! Chuck caused a fight and a near riot as people rushed to the front. There was a section for VIP that was divided by a white picket fence. Tough security and we couldn't sneak in. Near the end some people made holes through and someone busted the whole middle. We ran to see him closer.. It was the best. we had already paid $120+ for tickets dammit, we had the right. A little bit of people, comprised of old timers were at the front as the picket fence held the hundreds of people standing and sitting on lawn chairs. Someone asked if we were going to stand for Chuck Berry and block her. Some people we throwing ice at my other friend. Someone said, "You should stand with us" Hells yeah, no one should sit for Chuck. As one kids shirt read "Fuck Elvis, Chuck Berry is the King", "Chuck Berry is God". I don't know about got, but he's close.hahh I finally got my you tube thing figured out and I recoded "My Dingaling" .
Man o Man what a day. We got there early for Pinetop Perkins. He is one of the last Mississippi bluesman still performing at the age of 95. Love him. He started in 1927. He played piano for Muddy Waters. Here he is signing a picture for me. I wanted to squeeze him and say thank you. He witnesses and experienced all that heavy oppression and racism. We can never say we have it hard.
What a night for a Thursday. My second trip to see Toots and the Maytals. Love the man..he has love for his music and his audience.. Everyone was up in arms..he's such a great performer..I got contact high..by the music ..uhhmm.
After the show we headed to Soul Side the Room in Santa Monica. Very cool, and dark venue. After a couple of drinks and conversation we headed to Transistor. I do the danger dog after dancing, but had it before we were starving. Where can you get to dance on a lit up dance-floor for 5 bucks $2 dollar vodka cranberry, and a 3 dollar Dog?!. can't beat it. I like the crowd because it's full of energy. Dorian and Alex keep it going with a variety of music. At the end Dorian Played MARVIN GAYE & TAMMI TERRELL "Ain't no Mountain High Enough" mixed with Dr. Martin Luther King's Jr.'s "I have a Dream Speech" in honor of Obama accepting the nomination for presidency of the U.S. I always get chills when I hear the I have a dream speech. Si se puede! Yes we can!
I used my Gocco to print on vinyl and didn't like them, but I saved them and made some new labels for my purses. And I felt the need to sew a pouch..without a pattern.. It took me forever because the oilcloth kept sliding and I'm a clumsy.
Here are 2 purses that were mailed to me and painted. I'm not done with the red one. Anyone can mail me their purses to custom paint. The coin Purse is from Squirrel's nest on etsy. I traded for the cell phone case with the bird.
These are not my pictures, but its close. Get a tamal and a Peach Margarita! and if you are hungover, some meatball soup (sopa de albondigas)..I dont know about the rest of the food cause the burrito gave me heartburn, it might be just me..haha, but my friends like it. It's cozy, dark, has a full bar, and velvet paintings.
Check out Night of the Iguana. Pictured above. It's a must taking place in Mexico with a great cast.
Right now I'm watching Rio Escondido with Maria Felix. In the intro Maria walks through and looks at Diego Rivera's History of the Mexican Revolution Murals. The LA Public Library has a lot of Spanish Movies from the Mexican Silver Screen. Get your library card and check out and not pay for your classics. There are some newer releases, but if you look it doesn't hurt to look through and see some movies that have been out of print or not in your local movie rental place. I went to the El Sereno branch.
Wist.com. It's like a website wish list that saves websites where you saw something you like. My gold purse is on there..hee hee. and yes I googled myself and found me-self in a Citysearch Picture of Luxe de Ville. I know its not big press, but I take what I can get. You can see my Virgen purse ( which sold) and Nico white purse. They also mentioned my purses in the description.
Sunset Junction street fair ! I'm going, but there aren't any good bands playing. Yeah, the Germs, but not the original. I love the sunset junction because it one of the days when I feel I LOVE LA!. .I love to see the different types of people come out...The moms and kids and the hip and eclectic crowd.. The only thing that has bothered me every year is some leather daddy comes out with their nalgas (butts) hanging out..Come on, there are kids and moms and kids..Dang..I have love for the leather daddies, don't get me wrong, but I can picture myself with a stroller and holding the hands of my 10 kids (not really) and my kid asking me "Mommy, why is that man that looks like uncle Chuy grabbing his friends bare nalga?" I would explain, "it's because...cover your eyes..j/k I don't know!"..Just cover it up dudes..its daylight! Image from flickr
I went to Michaels to get this and that to make jewelry and hair clips and found this book. Generation T. It also has a website. It's a great guide if you are not a sewer and want to refashion a T-shirt. My boyfriend got inspired.. Lets see what happens. I also dusted off my sewing machine and did a little sewing too. I'm afraid of the machine because of my "making clothes for myself ventures". They didn't turn out so well, but I painted and sewed around the edges of this owl and took apart a vintage necklace and added some charms and love . Tadaaa! The other thing is a pin and I also made a hair clip (not pictured here. It's kinda big , but I think some one can rock it out. I need to work on the owl's eyes, they look weird to me.haha Ok, it's not that I pose my cats with things, it's that they are nosy...arrg Here Kat Von D cutting up a shirt. And another video of someone else doing it.
