"Soldadera," a photograph taken around 1915 by Agustin Victor Casasola.

Some images from: Latin American StudiesSo, I'm looking to be an Adelita or Soldadera for Halloween or/and Day of the Dead... Yes, I know there is a difference between the two holidays...I just want to get something that isn't too much work. I'm putting together Day of the Dead Displays for the 31st since DOD is on Sunday..Long story.
Adelitas or Soldaderas were women that took arms during the Mexican Revolutionary War...These women were badass (spelled together...should be a word)! I feel more uplifted and get a sense of pride when I look at these pictures..
This is a great book also. With images. Soldaderas by Elizabeth Salas

Funny, how there is a "Huchy" (is a word, but spell check doesn't know slang) version of everything.

This crap is found here: Soldadera Costume

Stereotypical Adelita Painting by Angel Martin
I grew up looking at this painting, but it doesn't represent La Adelita as she should be. Great Illustration though.
wha..rever..(should be a word)

Those photos of actual soldaderas are great! Thank you for posting them and the blog entry. Good luck on the search and please post photos of your own Dia de los muertos makeup and costume.
Yeah, they seem to leave the fact that Mexicanas have always been feminists out of the history books.
Thank you girls! and I'm happy u liked them
Where did you find this angel martin pic? He used to have a great website dedicated to him, but it has been taken over by another "Angel Martin"
Photography was invented in 1827. I think those photos were taken later. Their clothing looks as though it's from a later period, too.
My mistake, I'm searching for images of costume from the first Mexican Revolution. I take it now you are referring to a later revolution.
