My Chola Purses
Chola: (as defined in the Urban Dictionary by people that write in)
hardcore latina gangbangers. They usually have thin, arched, angry looking tattooed-on or penciled-on eyebrows, brown or dark red lip liner, 'Monroe', eyebrow and nose piercings, tats, Converse or Nikes, flannel shirts, lots of gold jewelry (with their name and crosses), crunchy jelled or moussed hair either down or gelled in a high perfect ponytail either straight back or gelled in a design, and they go out with cholos. A lot of regular mexican or puerto rican girls do the look but aren't cholas. A true chola is down for her barrio and is in a gang, and is as ruthless as a male gangbanger if not more. It is much more common to just look like a chola, and not act like a chola. The chola style is common in southern California like east LA, San Diego, OC, and also NYC. In Miami they are called 'chongas' (Note: I cut and pasted this so it says a lot that this person can't spell. Well, I shouldn't talk.hahha.) Wow, thats a mouthful. I like the entry by Brendy: "The girls my brother gets pregnant". haha To me there are different types. There is the "will cut you chola" which I almost got beat up by back in the day on Santa Monica Beach because I supposedly looked at her man. And there is the" laid back" one that is down for her barrio, has pride and calls herself a Chicana. I grew up knowing both and I liked their style. My sis styled my hair a'la Farrah Fawcett for a Quinceanera and my mom almost kicked my ass.. haha. In all I have some respect for them because they are tough and don't care. Yeah, they are crazy, but the silent chill cholas were those to be admired when I was in Jr. High. I loved the crunchy bleached feathered hair (occasionally with the black roots) and the arched eyebrows a'la Bette Davis/ Mae West, eye liner a'la Marilyn and the creased shirts and skinny pants with the ball socks and Cortez. They were clean and took care of themselves. This is back in the day Chola circa 1970-80's, not todays cholas. Todays Cholas can't get it right with the eyebrows and eyeliner..If you are one that wants to argue that..Please do cause..Need I say Sharpie! What I don't like that is happening is that people are mocking and making fun of the whole chola thing on You Tube and it doesn't settle right with me because it's racial and it presents a stereotype. Well, I'm one not to take myself too seriously, but this gets to me! N-E-Ways, Check out this blog..I love it. too bad they haven't posted anything current. I wish they did. Chola of the day. | ||
